Johnny Mack Sansom, of Sulphur, was born on October 7, 1940, in Santa Anna, Texas to the late Otis Arthur and Helen Pauline Jones Sansom. He passed away Thursday morning, June 4, 2009 at the Ardmore, Oklahoma hospital at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 28 days.

Memorial services with military honors are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Sulphur with Brother Dick Terry officiating.

Johnny was a graduate of the first graduating class of Jim Ned High School in 1958 and had lived in Abilene, Texas and Davis, Oklahoma before moving to Sulphur in 1997. He loved playing his guitar and singing, and was often found in the Murray County area performing with his group Gone Country. He also enjoyed playing golf, and was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Sulphur. Johnny was a veteran of the United States Army, and was retired as a bridge inspector with the Burlington-Northern/Santa Fe Rail Company.

He married the former Mary Lee Mayton on April 3, 1998 in Dallas, Texas.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Mary of the home; daughters, Andrea Sansom and fiancé Chris Cagley of Clyde, Texas, Rhonda Kowald and husband Will of Carrollton, Texas, Renee Sansom of Edmond, Oklahoma; son, David Sampson and wife Julie of Moore, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Christopher Crouse and wife Lydia, Whitney Hubbard and husband Cody, Lindsey Garza and husband Michael, Taylor Kowald, Tyler Kowald, K.K. Kowald, Raegan Sampson, Claire Sampson and Dylan Sansom; great granddaughter K.K. Pylate; sister in law Fredell Sansom of Tuscola, Texas and family; many, many friends.

Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, a son Mark Sampson, brother Mickey Lynn Sansom, and a niece Autumn Sansom.
