Gary Wayne Grant, 73, formerly of Lawn, passed away May 9, 2015 at his home in Murfreesboro Tennessee. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Lawn Baptist Church, Rev. Kenneth Jordan officiating, directed by Fry~Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14, from 5 to 7pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in McBee Cemetery, Ovalo.

Gary was born July 21, 1941 to Charles Everett Grant and Ellen Marie Grant in Winters, Texas. He was the oldest of the two children. He was a big brother to Francis who proceeded him in death.

Gary graduated from Jim Ned High School in 1959, and then served three years in the United States Army. On May 13, 1961 he married Katherine Heuermann in Houston, and they had three sons Ronald, Jerrold, and Cary.  Gary professed his life to Christ at an early age and he served on the board at Zion Lutheran Church for 12 years. Gary started his career at the bottom in the banking business, working his way up to vice president, he then moved into commercial real estate and development.  The family moved to Houston in 1979 where he continued his work in banking and commercial real estate.

He married Carolyn Storey on August 18, 1996 in Bloomington, Illinois. Gary went back to school at age 60 to become a MRI Technician, so he could travel with Carolyn in the medical field of MRI and Ultrasound.

Gary retired in Murfreesboro Tennessee in 2010 where he spent most of his time doing what he loved most making new friends, riding his Harley Motorcycle, cooking, playing with his dogs, gardening, and reading his bible. He was a loving and caring person, devoted husband, father, and friend, always thinking of others first. “To know him was to love him”

Gary leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife Carolyn Grant of Murfreesboro TN, three children Ronald and wife Janice of Houston, Jerrold and wife Amanda  of Houston, and Cary and wife Tracy, of Houston:  six granddaughters; Brittney, Alexis, Kaitlyn, Lauryn, Brenna, and Jordan. One great grandson Jackson. Along with nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial be sent to MD Anderson, P O Box 4486, Houston, Tx 77210. Please include a note stating the funds are for Pancreatic Cancer.
