(March 7, 1964 - February 1, 2021)

Douglas Dwaine Johnson went to be with the Lord after his battle with Covid on February 1, 2021.

He was 56 years old. Doug was born on March 7, 1964 in Merkel, Texas to Dwaine and Margaret Johnson. He married the love of his life, Tammy Herbort, on June 12, 1998.

Doug attended Abilene Christian University and received his Bachelors of Science in Education in 1986. He went on to earn his Master’s degree in History from Sam Houston University in 2017. His teaching and coaching career began at Brookesmith High School and he taught at seven more schools before making his home at Weimar ISD in 2008. Doug lead two teams to the State Championship in Girls Basketball in 1994 and 1998.

Doug continues to be a beloved husband and father. He was adored by his daughter, Kaylea Johnson, and his son, Cody Hamer. Including his students and athletes, Doug had hundreds of kids that he impacted with his desire to teach, lead and inspire. He made learning history fun and interesting for his students and was a strong support for his athletes. He dedicated much of his time and energy into his students, which they loved him for in return.

Doug was an example of Christ in the way that he loved his family, students and athletes. He was a loving brother, cherished son, goofy uncle and friend to many. Doug was a man of integrity who kept his word and loved life. He poured his heart and soul into others, always doing whatever he could for someone else. His servant heart was in everything he did. He loved rock and roll, chocolate pie, history, his 1969 Mustang and taking adventures with Tammy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Tammy of Weimar, daughter Kaylea Johnson of Los Angeles, son Cody Hamer of Weimar, mother Margaret Johnson of Abilene, sister Angela Seals and husband Shanon of Atlanta, and brother Ryan "Grady" Johnson and wife Leah of Abilene. He is preceded in death by his beloved father Dwaine Johnson, who will be happy to see him again in Heaven.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 1:30 PM at Weimar High School Gymnasium, 506 W. Main St., Weimar, Texas with Scott Elliott officiating.
