Billie Ted 'Hog' Horton

Billie Ted "Hog" Horton, 86, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the Carlsbad Medical Center. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Boyd officiating.

Billie Ted “Hog” Horton was born to Charlie W. and Virginia (Parnell) Horton on December 24, 1931 in Lawn, TX. He was raised in Lawn and following high school he served in the US Marine Corps before moving to Carlsbad, NM.

Hog and Maxine Brown Horton were married on October 25, 1968 in El Paso, TX. In his early working years he was employed at IMCC Potash and owner of Carlsbad Harley Davidson. He was then employed as a building contractor owning both Horton Construction and Sullivan Insulating for many years prior to his retirement in 2005.

Billie Ted “Hog” was an avid athlete and jokester his entire life, he was known for his football and baseball abilities in his home town but eventually went on to race motorcycles, build, own, flag and race Modified Midget Race Cars all over the United States and serve as the Western Vice President of the National Modified Midget Racing Association. In his later years fishing and gardening became his favorite pastimes along with still visiting race tracks as much as possible, keeping in touch with his friends and never missing a televised race or current publication of The Speed Sport News.

Hog was a current member of Eddy Lodge #21 AF & AM, Carlsbad Shrine Club, B.P.O. Elk’s #1558, American Legion Bryan Mudgett Post #7 and Bass Masters.

Billie Ted is preceded in death by his wife, parents and nine siblings: Velma, Sidney, Everett “Ebb”, Ralph, Herman, MC, Bobby Ray, Morene and Merlene Horton.

He is survived by his children: Michael W. Horton, Billie K. “Katie” Horton of Little Elm, TX, Virginia L. “Jini Lu" Jones of Carlsbad, Kelley (Hahn) and husband John P. Boughton of Payne Springs, TX and Suzanne (Hahn) and husband Matthew Carlsen of Carlsbad, NM; brother Charlie T. Horton of Spring, TX; grandchildren: Brad and wife Kendra Carlsen, Barry Carlsen and girlfriend Brittany Fox, Katelyn and husband Roy Gaines and Shelley Jones, all of Carlsbad, Lindsay Rogers, Bailey Boughton and Dru Boughton and fiancé Vincent Gregg, all of Payne Springs, TX and great-grandchildren: Elizabeth “Lizzie”, Emily, Eli, Logan and Lennon as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
