James Luther Haynes, son of Lanham George Haynes and Exie Hefley, married to Martha Ann Labaume, and buried in Erath Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Stephenville, Erath County, Texas.


James Luther Haynes, 74, passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel in Stephenville. Interment will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Erath County. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Stephenville Funeral Home.

James was born Nov. 14, 1933, in Lawn to the late Lanham and Exie Haynes. He served in the United States Navy in the Korean War, including as a Machinist Mate Second Class on the U.S.S. Consolation and the U.S.S. Zelima, from 1952 to 1956. James worked at the VA Medical Hospital in Dallas for 21 years, retiring in 1995.

He married Martha Ann LaBaume on Oct. 17, 1970, in Stephenville. James and Ann called Mesquite home beginning in 1973.

James is survived by his wife Ann, cousins, and a host of friends. The families of Ann's sister, Jane Truelove Bell, and Ann's brothers, Jon LaBaume and Don LaBaume, were as his own. He was a loving and adoring Uncle to their children, Randell LaBaume, Coy LaBaume, Jana Matteson, Kelly Truelove, and Kelli Childre, and especially to their grandchildren Kaylie, Emily, Nathan, Noah, Ethan, Harrison, and Kate, whom he cherished.

He was preceded in death by his brother L.G. Haynes of North Carolina in 2007.

James was a member of the Oates Drive Baptist Church in Mesquite.
