Doyle Glover Reid

Doyle G. Reid, 85, died Monday, April 18, 2005, at his home in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Rev. H. B. Terry, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Born May 23, 1919, in Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas, Doyle was the son of Richard and Mattie (Kane) Reid. Doyle moved to south Taylor County as a young child, attending school in Ovalo. Mr. Reid served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during WWII. He served in the South Pacific Theater of War and was radio operator for General Douglas MacArthur’s unit in the Philippines. After the service, he moved to Abilene where he lived since that time. Doyle married Audra B. Marshall in Abilene on June 27, 1942.

Mr. Reid was a salesman working for Owens Country Sausage, Foremost Dairies, and Brown-Moore-Flint Food Brokerage at the time of his retirement in 1984. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a Baptist.

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Audra Reid in 2001, five brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Paulette Frost of Plano, TX and Marsha A. Tipton of Abilene; two sisters, Faye Stricklin of Tyler, TX and Lila Henderson of Abilene; five grandchildren, Amanda "Mandy" Truesdale, Leslie Mrozek, Ryan Hughes, Jason Tipton and Jeremy Tipton; two great-grandchildren, Nikki Truesdale and Morgan Tipton; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Matt Mrozek, David Marshall, Ryan Hughes, Sean Truesdale, Randy Henderson and Kenny Henderson.
