Amos Luther Aldridge (Lawn Longhorns) - Class Of 1938

Amos Luther Aldridge

(January 16, 1920 ~ December 31, 2016)

Amos Luther Aldridge, son of Douglas David Aldridge and Sarah Cathilee McMillon, married to Dorothy Faye Cotton and buried in Counts Cemetery, Runnels County, Texas.

Amos Aldridge, 96, beloved, husband, father, and grandfather was called to his eternal resting place Saturday, December 31, 2016. He was born January 16, 1920 in Tokeen, TX, to Douglas and Sarah (McMillon) Aldridge.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Cotton) Aldridge; children, Pam Guffey and husband Joe, Lanny Aldridge and wife, Sherry, and Sarah Hastings and husband, LeLand; grandchildren, Todd Guffey and wife, Tai, Trey Guffey and wife, Julie, Joley Guffey-Hatter, Curry Aldridge and wife, Shana, Ryan Aldridge and wife, Liz, Brent Hastings and wife, Melanie, and Megan Hastings; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Upon attending Content schools and graduating from Lawn High School, Amos gained an academic scholarship to attend
UCLA. During his time in California, Amos and his twin brother Amon made extra money by singing on the radio, with Roy Rodgers, and could often be found humming his favorite classics and hymns even in his final days. He returned to Texas to marry his sweetheart, Dorothy Faye, in 1943 and to begin their lives in the farming and ranching for the next 73 years. Amos and his twin brother, Amon, raised registered Brangus cattle in north east Runnels county. They earned recognition as an innovative entrepreneur in the field cattle ranching, using records and historical data to better their herd and their agriculture business.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Amos volunteered to serve during
World War II in the Navy. He served aboard various aircraft carriers and was one of the first individuals in Japan providing relief after the bombing and surrender of Japan.

He always strove to be the best in all he attempted, and expected the same of those around him. Amos lived a full life, instilling in his family the same values that he held closely - the importance of hard work, the love of fishing, loyalty, laughter, and above all his faith in God.
