Celeta Boozer Martin, 94, died Thursday, December 10, 2009 in a local care center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Dr. Steve Joiner officiating. Burial to follow in McBee Cemetery, South Taylor County.

Celeta was born on June 14, 1915 in Ovalo, Texas to the late Alvin and Nellie Boozer. She was a graduate of Ovalo High School and married Wayne Avon Martin in Putnam, Texas in September of 1935.

Celeta was employed as a telephone operator in Ovalo, Texas for nine years. When she moved to Abilene in 1942 she continued her career with Southwestern Bell for 40 years. She was an active member of Telephone Pioneers and was a secretary of the local chapter for 39 years.

She was an active member of the South Side Baptist Church in Abilene where she served as director of the Senior Adult Sunday School Department for a number of years. Also, she was a member of Rose Park Senior Citizens, where she was an active quilter. Celeta was a volunteer for the Baptist Association of Social Ministries as well.

Survivors include a son, Eddie W. Martin and wife, Shirley of Buda, TX; a brother, Van M. Boozer and wife, Melba of Abilene, TX; two sisters, Su Swindle of Abilene and Mrs. James W. (Joretta) Pogue of Abilene; three grandsons, James Allan Martin of Austin, TX, Dr. Cory Martin of Scottsdale, AZ, and Michael Martin of Buda, TX; and four great-grandsons. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Avon Martin; a brother, Harold Boozer; and a sister, Fern Boozer Wood.
