Veda Joyce Jones Bynum, daughter of Marvin Augusta Jones and Linnie Laura Whatley, married to Raymond Hoyt Bynum and buried in Potosi Cemetery, Potosi, Taylor County, Texas.

Veda Joyce Jones Bynum was born on September 30, 1925 in Tuscola, Texas to Marvin Augusta and Linnie Laura Jones. She graduated from Tuscola High School in 1943 and served her country during the Second World War by working at Camp Barkley outside of Abilene.

Veda married Raymond Hoyt Bynum of Potosi on October 12, 1946. They lived in Potosi, Texas where they were both active members of the Potosi United Methodist Church. She worked for twenty years at the Abilene State School as a nursing assistant. She also worked as an elementary cafeteria monitor for the Abilene Independent School District for eight years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and canning fresh fruits and vegetables and spending time with family.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty years, Hoyt, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Jones, four brothers, Rex Jones, Burl Jones, Westal Jones, and Garland Jones, and one sister, Modelle Powell. She is also preceded in death by close family friend, Chelsa Holder of Weatherford.

She is survived by two daughters, Laura Bynum of Weatherford, and Toni Blanchard and her husband, Gerald, of Potosi.She is also survived by four grandchildren: Gerald Blanchard, Jr. of Syracuse, New York, Jennifer Blanchard Connors and her husband, Shawn, of Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, Ashley Blanchard Stewart and her husband, Harper, of Graham, and Aryn Blanchard Standeford and her husband, Richard, of New Braunfels. The lights of her life were her great-grandchildren: Grace Stewart, Sydney Blanchard, Faith Stewart, Elisabeth Connors, and Harrison Standeford.She is survived by one sister, Nelda Lockley of Abilene, and two sisters-in-law, Mamie Bynum Gray and Pat Bynum, both of Abilene, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by close family friend, Bev Hogg of Weatherford.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 22, 2012 from 5:00 to 6:30 at North's Funeral Home in Abilene. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Potosi United Methodist Church in Potosi, Texas. Internment will follow immediately after the service at the Potosi Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service include Gerald Blanchard, Bill Keys, Patrick Lloyd, Eric Rogers, Richard Standeford, and Harper Stewart. Honorary pallbearers include Gary Jones, Cleve Powell, Morris Wiltrout, Pete Bynum, and Tom Rigsby.
