Newton Carroll Pursley, 84 of Midland, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday February 14, 2010 at his residence. He was born September 26, 1925 in Tuscola, TX to the late Newt and Annie Pursley. Newton was raised in Buffalo Gap, TX and graduated from Tuscola High School in Tuscola, TX. He later entered the U.S. Navy and fought in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Newton was an avid gun collector and enjoyed learning the computer. He loved animals and supported the SPCA. Newton was a Mason with Lodge #623 in Midland and The VFW Post #14149 also of Midland. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Fay Hill Pursley, two brothers, Gordon Pursley and D.J. Pursley, and his sister, Nadine Lennox. Newton is survived by his two sons, James Carl Pursley and Alan Carroll Pursley both of San Angelo, TX: two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. A funeral Service will take place Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 3:00 PM at West Kentucky Baptist Church with Pastor Bob Porterfield officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Kevin Warren, Mike Hill, A.J. Pursley, Zac Perez, Shawn Bentley and Brad Pursley. Funeral services are under the direction of Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home.
