LAWN:  Lloyd Vaughn O’Shields, 83, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, May 16, 2015 in  the Oplin Cemetery’s pavilion, Gayle Potter officiating, directed by Fry~Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm Friday, May 15 at the funeral home.

          Vaughn was born at home in Lawn to Luke and Bessie (Dawson) O’Shields on October 11, 1931. He was the youngest of eight children.

Vaughn grew up in Southern Taylor County and attended Lawn schools. He farmed and ranched in the Lawn area; in 1964 he went to work at the Abilene State School, retiring in 1989 after 25 years of service.

          Vaughn married Ruth Connel on January 27, 1953 in Lawn. Vaughn and Ruth built their house down the road from the house he grew up in.

          Vaughn played with Slim Willet on the Slim Willet show and occasionally he and Slim would play for the Harry Holt show, both on KRBC.

          When not playing the banjo or guitar Vaughn was working his cattle, he named each one, never having two named the same. Vaughn was the president of the 80% complete club, with several projects completed to 80% around the place.

          Vaughn is survived by his wife; Ruth of Lawn; son Shannon O’Shields of Lawn; four grandchildren Sara Boyles of Tuscola, David O’Shields and wife Leasha of Buffalo Gap, Ransom and wife Stacey of San Antonio, and Macon O’Shields of San Antonio; eleven great grandchildren, Bronson, Klynn, Garron, Hallie, Kason, Kynzi, Jayce, Brooklynn, Cassie, Kaylason, Sophia.

          He was proceeded in death by his parents, his two sons Gary and Stacey O’Shields; and seven brother and sisters.
