David "Dewayne" Poindexter

David "Dewayne" Poindexter passed from this life to be with his heavenly father and beloved family on November 12, 2015 at the age of 68. He was born on November 11, 1947 in Baird, Texas. No more pain, he is rejoicing in Heaven. He was a beloved husband, father, brother and Gramps.

He attended Jim Ned School System in Lawn and Tuscola, TX. He moved to Odessa in 1968 after being honorably discharged from the Navy. He attended Odessa College where he received his Associate Degree in Law Enforcement. He was a proud Vietnam Vet who served from 1965-1968. He was awarded the Purple Heart and a Navy Achievement Medal with a Combat "V". He worked at Rexene and it's affiliates from early 1970s until his retirement in January 2002. He was an avid car lover and owned a 1965 GTO National Winner that was in the Southwest Museum in Bastrop, TX for over 10 years at one time. One of his life enjoyments was cruising with Princess Cruise Lines which they did as often as possible, and camping with in his new RV. He also volunteered at Harmony Home for many years and was involved in several car clubs locally. He was a charter member of Mission Dorado Baptist Church. One of his life's recent highlights was to be able to attend the Honor Flight trip in May 2015 to Washington DC.

He is survived by his caring and loving wife, Janis Pinkston Poindexter of 34 years. His daughter, Debra Watson and husband, Kyle and their children Kameron, Evan, Hannah, Jakeb & Alyson of Keller, TX. His son, Billy Hendrix and wife Mila, and their children Alyssa and Seven of Magnolia, TX also their daughter, Amanda of Colorado. His brother, Don Poindexter and wife Becky of Abilene, TX. His sister, LaRie Hancock and husband Buck of Lawn, TX. His Honorary Adopted Son Bob Martel and Special Friend, Paul Evans.

He is predeceased by his parents Dave and Maxine Poindexter and his sister Brenda Poindexter.

Services are entrusted to Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home of Odessa, TX. Family visitation will be Friday, November 13, 2015 from 5-7 pm at Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home. Services will be at 10am Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Mission Dorado Baptist Church with Robert Bratcher officiating. A Military Burial Service with honors will be at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, TX at 1pm Monday November16, 2015 located at 7457 W Lake Rd, Abilene.
