Y'all...this is my 87 year old grandmother who was a cheerleader for the Tuscola Tigers many years ago. She's been doing this CHEER for us since I was little and I finally thought to record it. Isn't she precious?!
We ❤️ her to pieces!

Lura Mae (Bowman) Adkisson

Abilene, TX

Lura Mae Bowman Adkisson, age 88, of Abilene, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Hendrick Hospice Care Center of Abilene.

Lura was born on October 1, 1929 in Potosi, Texas to Jerry M. Bowman and Lula R. (Bell) Bowman and later moved to Tuscola, Texas to begin their family farm. Lura attended school in Tuscola where she was a member of the Tuscola Tiger Pep Squad. She still sang the cheers way into her 80's. Lura continued the close friendships of her classmates spanning over 70 years. She met with her classmates regularly for dinners and reminisced about their school years at Tuscola High School while having many laughs.

Lura married her sweetheart, Junior Adkisson of Abilene, on December 15, 1945 in the Adkisson family home with Pastor Campbell of Palm Street Church of Christ officiating. Junior and Lura have cherished watching their family grow throughout their loving marriage of 72 years. They have lived their entire married life in Abilene. Lura's world has revolved around her husband, children, grandchildren and serving the Lord. Lura was baptized at the age of 13, by Brother Clarence Snodgrass, at Cedar Gap Church. She has been a lifetime member of the Oak Street Church of Christ of Abilene, where she enjoyed worshiping and singing praises to the Lord.

After marrying the love of her life, she went on to attend Commercial College in Abilene. She worked at U.S. Timex for many years and later became a full-time homemaker. Lura then worked alongside her husband as the interior designer of their antique car restoration business. She found great enjoyment camping with her family on the Red River Motorcycle Ranch. She was always up for a good time and had a fun-loving sense of humor. She enjoyed family reunions and gathering for special occasions. She loved to sing with the family, especially the grandchildren. Lura was a prime example of Christ-like living, constantly paying compliments to all. She never missed an opportunity to make you feel uplifted and loved. Her greatest joy was reading her Bible daily. One of her favorite scriptures was Psalm 119:105, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."

Lura was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Lula Bowman; infant daughter, Pamela June; two sisters; three brothers and daughter-in-law, Barbara of Abilene.

Lura is survived by her husband, Junior Floyd of Abilene; two sons, Ricky Adkisson of Abilene, Perry and wife Kay of Ridgecrest, California; and one daughter, Sandy Miller and husband Rick of Tuscola; 11 grandchildren: Kyle Miller, Wendy Moseley, Candie Atkinson, Skylor Adkisson, Tammy Adkisson, Angela Pope, Kimberly Davison, Tami Lusk, Kim Hair, Nathaniel Adkisson and Caleb Adkisson; 30 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons: Ryker Adkisson, Kade Miller, Levi Smith, Jarrod Acosta, Hayden Lusk, and Andrew Rodriguez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hunter Davison, Brayden McDonald and Hunter Crowder.

The family would like to thank Dr. Tommie Farrell and the wonderful staff and compassionate nurses that cared for our sweet Mother (Grandmother) during her stay at Hendrick Hospice Care Center. They are the best!

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 5-7 pm at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories, 5701 US Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. A celebration of Lura's life will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 10:00 am in the Chapel with burial to follow at Cedar Gap Cemetery.
