Hollis Durwood 'H.D.' Adams, Sr.

(October 8, 1922 - May 22, 2016)

Hollis Durwood 'H.D.' Adams, Sr., son of Vincent Clyde 'Vinnie' Adams and Rita Aurora Parker, married to Dotty Bailey, then married to Dorothy Avis (Younglove) Wills and buried in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.  South Taylor County Independent School District High School Principal (1956-1957).  First Jim Ned Consolidated Independent School District High School Principal (1957-1959).

Hollis D. Adams, 93, of Denton, TX, passed away May 22, 2016, in Denton.

He was born October 8, 1922, in Cochise County, Arizona, to V.C. (Vinnie) and Rita Adams.

Hollis is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Wills) Adams, son, Hollis, Jr., and wife, Teresa Adams, daughters, Rita and husband, Riley Lewis, Doris Corley, step-daughter, Sue and husband, Stan Speed, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by wife, Dotty Adams, brother, Archie Adams, and sister, Lucille Bohnstedt, step-son, Jack Wills, and son-in-law, Robert Corley.

Hollis proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He was a Chief Petty Officer and spent his final years in the Navy stationed at the Pentagon in Naval Intelligence in Washington, D.C.

Hollis earned a M.Ed. from the University of North Texas and served as a teacher, principal, superintendent, and retired from UNT in 1991.

After many years and different paths, Hollis was reunited with his high school sweetheart and they married in 1994. He loved his Lord and enjoyed 60 years teaching, preaching and serving as an elder in the church. He loved the Denton Church of Christ where he was actively involved until his health failed.

Following a family memorial service at the cemetery he will be buried in the National Cemetery in Dallas.
