Mary Elizabeth Stanfield

(September 20, 1922 - June 24, 2006)

Mary Elizabeth Sanfield, daughter of H.J. Stanfield and Myrtle Ogar Downey and buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Winters, Runnels County, Texas.  Bradshaw Independent School District High School Teacher (1942-1947).

SAN ANGELO — Mary Elizabeth Stanfield, age 83, of San Angelo, and formerly of Winters died Saturday, June 24, 2006 in Meadowcreek Nursing Facility in San Angelo.

Mary was born in Coleman County near Talpa on September 20, 1922, to the late H. J. and Myrtle Downey Stanfield. She attended schools in the Coleman and Taylor Counties, and graduated from Bradshaw High School in 1938. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard Payne University, at Brownwood, Texas, and a Master of Education from Sul Ross University at Alpine, Texas.

Her 45 year teaching career included schools in Bradshaw, Norton, and Winters Junior High.

Miss Stanfield was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winters. She was also a member of the Runnels County Unit of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. Following her retirement in 1987, she traveled extensively in the United States and abroad until 1996.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Nolan Stanfield.

Survivors are: two nephews, Alan Ray Stanfield and wife, Susan, of San Angelo, and Terry Stanfield and wife, Deborah of Abilene; one great nephew, Craig Stanfield of San Angelo; two great nieces, Terri Lyn Tutt of Denton, and Michelle Stanfield of Dallas.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Lakeview Cemetery with Pastor Joe Chamness officiating. Services are under the direction of the Winters Funeral Home.

Mary wishes to express thanks for the love and support of this family, especially Alan Ray, Susan and Michelle Stanfield for their love and support for the past 8 years. Also, for the memories of Vista Care, especially their care and support at the end of life. Thank you for the love, support, and concern from Karrie, my Vista Care nurse, Dr. Neiman and Dr. Hewell.
