Abilene - Dorothy Jetton, 96, of The Woodlands formerly of Abilene passed away peacefully on October 21, 2021 after a long and fruitful life.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 11:00 A.M in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 5-7 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 Hwy. 277 S. in Abilene.

Dorothy was born on March 18, 1925 in Ovalo, Texas to her loving parents the late Aaron and Lela (Patton) Chasteen. She was reared on a farm outside of Ovalo, where she enjoyed working alongside her father. It was during this time she cultivated a strong work ethic, her day began early completing chores before going to school. She graduated from Ovalo High School in South Taylor County. Her friendly and warm personality caught the attention of a young serviceman, Clyde T. Jetton at a local skating rink. After he came back from the war where he was injured and became an amputee, she married the love of her life on November 30, 1944, in Temple, Texas. After marriage, the family moved to Sweetwater, and then to Lubbock as her husband pursued his Doctorate in Psychology. The couple moved Abilene in 1947 for Clyde's career; he served as a psychology professor for many years at Hardin Simmons University. Dorothy was as devoted homemaker, and took great care of her husband and son, Ron. She enjoyed traveling across the United States and abroad, and experiencing new things. She enjoyed quilting, and shared her quilts with special people in her life. Dorothy was naturally creative and enjoyed many forms of art from painting, detailed embroidery work, and sculpting. She loved George Strait and went to several of his concerts. She will be remembered as a hard worker and a friendly person who never met a stranger. While living in Abilene she was a member of University Baptist Church and Pioneer Drive Baptist Church respectively, before moving to the Houston area to be close to her son.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Dr. Clyde T. Jetton; and one brother and one sister.

She is survived by her devoted son, Dr. Ronald C. Jetton, ED.D. and his wife, Sheryl of Willis, Texas; and one cherished granddaughter, Laura Lea Robbins and her husband, Kyle of Cypress, TX and great-grandchildren, Mason and Matthew Woods.
