Lowell Eugene "Shorty" Grant, 69, of Novice, passed away early Thursday morning, March 20, 2014 at Hendrick Hospice. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, March 22, 2014 at McBee Cemetery, Marcy Grun officiating, directed by Fry~Bartlett Funeral Home, Tuscola. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday March 21, from 5 to 7pm in the evening.

Shorty was born on January 19, 1945 to H.H. Casey and Minnie Ola (Bryson) Grant in Ovalo. He grew up in Southern Taylor County. He attended Jim Ned High School and graduated in 1963. Upon his graduation he entered the United States Army where he served with the 11 Calvary in Vietnam.

When Shorty's enlistment ended with the Army he went to work in the oilfield traveling back to the East where he worked in Indonesia. He returned back to Abilene and bought Frontier Motors in the early 70's. Shorty worked at Frontier Motors until his retirement in 2002.

Shorty had a love for hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He was known as a great cook of anything that could be smoked, barbecued or fried.

He is survived by his mother, Minnie Ola Grant of Lawn; brothers Bill Grant and wife Faye of Abilene, Curtis Grant and wife Robin of Cumming, Georgia; sister, Lou Ann Mullings of Richmond; nephews Bill, Donnie, Craig, Cody, Dallas Grant and Casey Mullings; nieces Brook Schmidt, Brittany Mullings, Cara Blowers, and Lacy Womack.

He was preceded in death by his father.
