David Carl Hill, 79, of Buffalo Gap, Texas passed from this life on June 27, 2024 at his home. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 9:30am at Buffalo Gap Cemetery with Jim Mayfield of Lawn officiating.

David was born at Saint Ann hospital in Abilene to Carl Granvell and Mary Louise Grilliette on May 26, 1945. He attended Jim Ned High school and graduated with the class of 1963. He was strong, tough, brave, intelligent, persevering, a phenomenal truck driver and always on time. As a young man he loved fast cars.

He married Loleat Grun(Black) and they had two children, David(Bo) Granvell Hill and Amy Sue Wright. He later married Marsha Mayfield (Hill) and they had a daughter Marcheta Jo Hill.

He attended Texas Tech for a short period before becoming a truck driver hauling oilfield drilling equipment for many companies including F&W Drilling, Nucorp, and others for a number of years. His strength and tenacity both physically and in spirit was evident in his work ethic and the way he carried himself. If you needed someone to climb out to the end of the pole on a stinger truck and work on the beams of your house 31ft off the ground, you'd call David Hill.

In 1985 he experienced a life altering event that took many years to recover from and adjust to a way of life as an amputee. He refused to let that stop him from continuing to work on cars, lawnmowers, etc. and just 'tinkering'. He developed an impressive model train collection and loved building and designing the tracks. He was an avid reader of anything on engines, airplanes, guns, national geographic, and Louis L'Amour western novels. To him being early was the only way to be on time, get all the work done, and watch Gunsmoke in front of the a/c by 2pm. He shared his love of movies and reading with his daughter, Marcheta, spending much of their time together at the stacks of Barnes and Noble or viewing an action movie at the century theater.

David was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Noel Benningfield, and Janie Thornhill, and brother-in-law David Benningfield.

He is survived by daughter, Dr. Marcheta Jo Hill, son Bo Hill and wife Jackie, daughter Amy Sue Wright and husband Tim, two sisters Carmen Schafer and Judy Needham and husband Jim, grandchildren Macy Holder, Rhett Hill, and Zachary Wright, great-grandchildren Landon Faircloth, Thomas Holder, Caleb Holder, Emery Wright, Wesley Wright, and Waverly Wright. He is also survived by special friends Marsha Hill and Mike and Christene Box.
