Johnny Ray Herron, 56, of Lawn, died Thursday, December 30, 2010, in an Abilene hospital. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011, at Lawn Baptist Church with Rev. Ruben Metcalf officiating. Burial will be in McBee Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home in Tuscola. Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Johnny Ray was born August 15, 1954 to Forest M. (F.M.) Herron and Marcelyn Herron Smith and lived his life in Lawn, Texas. He graduated from Jim Ned High School and attended Cisco Junior College in Cisco, Texas.
Johnny Ray's love of the "simple life" was evident in all aspects of his life.
He worked in the oil field until 1995 and then returned to farming and ranching until 2010. Along with working the land, he loved to hunt wildlife with binoculars.
His love for his family was great. He was a "rock" that was alway there for his mom, brothers and family, as well as neighbors and many friends.
A friend to everyone and anyone, Johnny Ray always extended a helping hand to those in need.
Survivors include his mother Marcelyn Herron Smith; 2 brothers, Joe David Herron of Huntsville and Teddy Herron and wife Cathy of Lawn; 4 nephews and 1 niece.
Johnny Ray is preceded in death by his father Forest M. (F.M.) Herron, and grandparents Raymond and Johnnie Dodds.
