James Milton Tatum, son of Curtis Milton Tatum and Olivia Irene Roberson, married to Shirley Ann Pearce and buried in Tuscola Cemetery, Tuscola, Taylor County, Texas.


James Milton Tatum, 79, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Hendrick Medical Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Abilene Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, 3349 N. 12th Street. Pastor Paul Billiet of Ranchhouse Fellowship Cowboy Church in Merkel, where Milton and his family attended, will officiate. Burial will follow in Tuscola Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Milton was born November 2, 1933, in Tuscola to the late, Curtis Milton and Olivia Tatum. He graduated from South Taylor High School (Jim Ned) and joined the Abilene Fire Department in 1952, then retired in 1984, after 32 years of service.

Milton is survived by his wife of 60 years Shirley Ann; two sons, James Randall and Larry (wife Ramona); one daughter, Tracey Harvey, all of Abilene; two brothers, Don Curtis Tatum and Floyd Alton Tatum; seven grandsons and two granddaughters; twelve great grandchildren; and his two constant companions (dogs) J. R. and Charlie.
