Travis Ruben Box, 80, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Abilene Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, 3349 N. 12th Street with Elder Hulan Bass officiating. Burial will follow at the Tuscola Cemetery in Tuscola directed by Abilene Funeral Home.

Travis Ruben Box was born February 14, 1933 in Shep, Texas and was the fourth of five sons born to Robert and Nellie Box. Travis married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou Brewer, on December 6, 1953. To this union were born three children, Ronnie Wayne, Sherry Lynn and Cathy Elaine. Travis was a dedicated and loving husband and father.

He joined the Army in January 1954 and honorably served his country as a Private First Class in the US Army Artillery, Battery D of the 93rd Artillery Battalion during the Korean War. During his service, Travis was involved in secret atomic explosives testing in White Sands, New Mexico. And he completed his service in Alaska in 1956.

Travis was a plumber by trade. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. But above all, he loved his family and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of the Abilene Primitive Baptist Church.

Travis left this world of sin and sorrow on June 8, 2013 to go home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Bobby Wayne, S. V. and Troy Box.

Travis is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou; his son Ronnie Wayne; his daughters Sherry Lynn and husband Barry Brown, and Cathy Elaine and husband Jim Singleton; and four grandchildren Samantha Demetra Singleton, James John Singleton, Courtney Arisha Brown and Rachel Charis Brown; and his brother Sammy Box.

The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
