Thomas Roy 'Tommy' Vernon, son of Roy Atlas Vernon and Norene Mae Whiteaker, married to Peggy Charleen Roberson and buried in Tuscola Cemetery, Tuscola, Taylor County, Texas.

BIG SPRINGS-- Thomas "Tommy" Vernon, 65, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center following a short illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Herb McPherson and the Rev. Dewayne Wheat officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home in Tuscola. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday in Tuscola Cemetery with the Rev. Burtis Williams, the Rev. H. B. Terry and the Rev. T. C. Melton officiating.

Mr. Vernon was born in the Rogers Community in Taylor County on Oct. 5, 1935. He married Peggy Roberson in Ovalo. He moved to Big Spring from Abilene in 1965. He worked for Rockwell Lumber Company from 1972 to 1988 and then as an insurance adjuster until he retired. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Vernon of Big Spring; a daughter, Debbie Vernon of Big Spring; a son, Charlie Vernon of Tuscola; his mother, Norene Vernon of Abilene; a brother, Robert Vernon of Abilene; and three grandchildren.
