Clovis, son of Alla Purl Sanford and Vera Dulin and buried in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery, Abilene, Taylor County, Texas.



Tuscola Flier's Rites Saturday

TUSCOLA, March 3, (RXS) - Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Sanford of Tuscola have been notified by the War Department that the body of their son, Sgt. John Clovis Sanford, will arrive in Tuscola Friday evening.

Funeral will be conducted in the Tuscola Presbyterian Church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Dr. E. B. Surface of Abilene officiating, assisted by the Rev. W. I. Taylor of Big Lake, former Baptist pastor here.  Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, Abilene under direction of Hodge and Fry Funeral Home of Tuscola.

Sergeant Sanford was killed in Action in 1945 while flying his 29th mission as gunner on a B-21 with the 15th Air Force based in Italy.  He was with the 250th Bomb Squadren, 720th Bomb Group.  He received the Purple Heart and Air Medal with three clusters.

Born at Blair Aug. 5, 1925, Sanford was reared in Tuscola and was graduated from the Tuscola High School.  He was a student at Texas A&M College when he volunteered for service in 1944.

Surviving are the parents and four sisters.  Mrs. F. A. Kerby, Jr., of Wichita Falls.  Mrs. Lowell McIntyre and Mrs. Kenneth Rosson of Abilene and Ouida Sanford of Tuscola.

Abilene Veterans of Foreign Wars will have charge of graveside rites.  Pallbearers will be friends from this area who served in the Air Force during the war.
