Tyre, son of Allen Charles Hancock and Catherine Ruth Fleming, married to Jacque Geraldine Wilkinson and buried in Clyde Cemetery, Clyde, Callahan County, Texas.
Charles Tyre Hancock, 86, of Clyde passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024, in an Abilene hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Clyde First Baptist Church with Dr. Toby Henson and Chaplain Chris Hale officiating. Burial will follow in Clyde Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde.
Tyre was born August 13, 1937, in Lawn to Allen and Catherine (Fleming) Hancock.
He graduated from Lawn High School and attended Cisco Junior College on a football scholarship.
He married Jacque Wilkinson in Lawn on August 24, 1957.
He worked for the Abilene Fire Department for 30 years, retiring as Senior Fireman.
He was a member of the Clyde First Baptist Church, Gideon International, the Masonic Lodge and was also active in jail ministry.
He loved football, baseball, fishing and hunting.
He was an avid woodworker and carver, and many considered him an artist.
He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Crawford of Abilene; son-in-law, Ray Burnett of Allen; brother, James Hancock and wife Marie of San Rafael, California; sister, Mary Black and husband Bill of Abilene; four grandchildren, Jeff Crawford, Kristin Burnett Gee, Dr. Garrett Burnett and Andy Crawford; four great grandchildren, Les, Mayson and Henry Gee and Judson Crawford; special friend, Jan Cook and many nieces and nephews.
Tyre was preceded in death by his wife, Jacque in 2019; his daughter, Phyllis Burnett and his sister, Sandra Hancock.
