Laura Juanita Blankenship Cumby, daughter of James Harold Blankenship and Mildred Lorena Gill, married to James Arthur Cumby and buried in Tuscola Cemetery, Tuscola, Taylor County, Texas.

Juanita Blankenship Cumby, 74, formerly of Tuscola, died, December 28, 2010. Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2010 at Oldham Lane Church of Christ in Abilene. Burial will follow at Tuscola Cemetery. Services officiated by Lowell Maxey. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 30, from 5 to 7 at Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home in Tuscola.

Laura Juanita Blankenship was born October 26, 1936 in Port Lavaca, Texas to Harold and Mildred Blankenship.

They moved from Port Lavaca to the Runnels and Taylor County area when Juanita was very young allowing her to start school at Lawn, and then later attend school in Novice and Goldsboro. Her parents then moved to the Rogers Community when she was in the third grade. After the closing of the Rogers School, she attended school at Ovalo until Ovalo and Tuscola consolidated. She graduated from South Taylor High School in Tuscola.

After high school, Juanita enrolled and graduated from Scoggins Beauty School of Cosmetology in Abilene. She owned and operated Juanita's Beauty Shop in Tuscola.

She married James Cumby December 26, 1958 in Tuscola. While he was away in the military, she continued to operate her beauty shop in Tuscola until his military service was completed.

Her years after that were spent being a loving, faithful housewife, and raising three beautiful daughters. Juanita watched their daughters grow, seeing their families grow and then enjoying their eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was active in their church and was a bible teacher, she enjoyed her hobby of painting, becoming a talented artist.

Survivors include her husband, James of 52 years, daughters Pamela Steele and husband Allen of Garland, Sandra Edison and husband Paul of Rockwall, Jamie Calkins and husband Todd of Rowlett, brother Don Blankenship of Clyde, Sisters Anita Evans of Arlington, Iona Ernest of Abilene, 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, along with a great family of aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and many other family members and many, many good friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister Jeanette Pittman.
