On Thursday, January 24, 2019, our Mom went to be with her Lord and Savior. Shirley Thompson Good was born December 2, 1937 in the Rodgers community outside of Abilene to Irven and Tommie Thompson. She graduated from Lawn High School and then entered Hardin Simmons University to study elementary education with the goal of becoming a teacher.

While at Hardin Simmons she met another student named Kenneth Preston Good and they married August 23, 1958. By 1962 they had been blessed with 4 children, her husband started his teaching career, and as a family, moved frequently. In 1971, she graduated from Dallas Baptist University with her teaching degree and in the fall of 1972 they moved to Gorman, Texas where she started her teaching career. In Gorman she found the home and community she had always wanted to raise her family in. She also found a church family at First Baptist Church in Gorman. She was a faithful and valued member until she passed. She spent her entire teaching career at Gorman Elementary until her retirement, and will always remain as one of the most respected and beloved teachers to have taught there.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Irven and Tommie Thompson, her sister Mary Sawyer, brother-in-law Bill Vaughn, and her husband of almost 60 years Kenneth Good. She is survived by her children David and Holley Good of Forney, TX, Ken and Terri Good of Bullard, TX, Carla Strasner of Granbury, TX, Darla Good and husband Rick Ferrell of Tuscola, TX. She is also survived by children of her heart, Barry and Sharlene Schahn of Gorman, TX and Jacque Derkson of Australia. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to either First Baptist Church Gorman, TX or Hendrick Hospice Care of Abilene, TX.

The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Mesa Springs Nursing Home and Hendrick Hospice Care Abilene.
