Alvin, son of Marvin Monroe Papasan and Odie Nevada McMillon, married to Tommy Jo McCasland and buried in Earl Ladd Memorial Cemetery, Danville, Yell County, Arkansas.


DANVILLE -  Alvin Papasan, 83, of Danville died Monday, Aug. 15, 2005. He was born April 22, 1922, in Guion, Texas. He was a construction inspector for the Arkansas Highway Department and owner of Fourche River Kennel.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Danville with burial at Earl Ladd Cemetery in Danville. Obituary submitted by Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville.

He is survived by his wife, Jo; a daughter, Pat Eppler of Tyler, Texas; two sons, Billy Papasan of McAlester, Okla., and Tommy Papasan of Danville; a sister, Melba Conner of San Angelo, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Alvin Papasan, age 83 of Danville died Monday, August 15 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. Mr. Papasan was born April 22, 1922 in Guion, Texas to the late Marvin and Odie Nevada McMillon Papasan.

He was a construction inspector for the Arkansas State Highway Department and a member of the First Baptist Church for 52 years.

Alvin was always athletic and participated in basketball and track at his tiny high school in Ovala, Texas. He won events at the Texas High School State Track Meet in 1937. Because of his size and speed he accepted a full football scholarship to New Mexico A & M. He started at halfback in the first football game he ever saw.

His greatest joy in his later years was watching his grandkids play their ballgames. His hobby for many decades was raising registered foxhounds. He and Jo operated Fourche River Kennel as long as he was able. His kennel produced what is considered one of the greatest foxhounds of all time in "Fourche River Rambler." Jo will continue to hold the license to their kennel.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Donnie Eppler; stepmother, Lucy Papasan.  

Services were held Wednesday, August 17, 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Danville with Rev. Jamie Staley and Rev. John McAnally officiating.

Interment was in Earl Ladd Cemetery by Cornwell Funeral Home, Danville. Pallbearers were grandsons. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 552, Little Rock, Arkansas 72203.
