CHARLOTTE - Calvin D. Little, 87, of Mint Hill, N.C., died on January 1, 2015, at Presbyterian Hospital, Matthews. Calvin was born March 25, 1927 in Runnels County, Texas to the late William Jesse and Lola Aldridge Little. He graduated from Lawn High School, Lawn, Texas, attended McMurry College and Abilene Christian University in Texas. Calvin worked as a long-haul truck driver, retiring from Ryder P.I.E. after 38 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening, working in his yard and woodworking. He was also a genealogy researcher for decades; but he especially loved the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren and watch them grow up. Calvin was a longtime member, and past Master of the Matthews Masonic Lodge, and a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church. He was also a World War II veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Navy. Calvin was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Kathryn Michaels Little, and five brothers, William Earl, Clinton Thomas, Carroll Grady, Bob Feller and Jimmy Doyle. Calvin is survived by his three children, Carolyn Little Price (Mike) of Richfield, John David Little (Joyce Boger) of Mint Hill, and Jane Little Chappell (Wayne) of Mint Hill; three grandchildren, Robert Lee Brewer, III (Jessica) of Albemarle, Michael Wayne Chappell of Charlotte, and Melissa Elizabeth Chappell of Wilmington; sisters, Wanda Belle McNeil of Fort Worth, TX, Tama Lois Stanley of Wimberley, TX, and Shirley Ann Davis of Houston, TX; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, January 4, 2015, at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. The funeral service to celebrate the life of Calvin Douglas Little will be held at 1 pm on Monday, January 5, at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 6701 Idlewild Road, Charlotte. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Masonic Children & Family Services, 338 Grapevine Hwy., Hurst, TX 76054; West Texas Rehab, 4601 Hartford St., Abilene, TX 79605; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
