Joe Gilbert Cumby

(November 20, 1930 ~ September 26, 1998)

BOWIE, Texas -- Joe G. Cumby, 67, of Bowie died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, in a Bowie hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Bowie with the Rev. Jamie Reed, pastor of the East Side Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home.

Mr. Cumby was born Nov. 20, 1930, in Ovalo, Texas. He and Lanna Jo Wood were married June 8, 1981, in Abilene, Texas. He was a lifetime member of the Reddy-McClellan Veterans of Forigen Wars Post No. 8789 in Bowie. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a retired bridge construction superintendent for Bailey Construction Company in Abilene. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Donna Bird of Midlothian, Texas; three sons, Joe of Midlothian, Texas, Mickey Gene of Lake Arrowhead, Texas, and Carl Eugene of Bowie; four brothers, Billy Doyle of Carrollton, Texas, Gerald E. of Burleson, Texas, Randall Lynn of Altus, Okla., and Tony Dale of North Richland Hills, Texas; and eight grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home today from 6-9 p.m. for visitation.
