Mary Eula Mae Scoggins Raney Jones

(May 8, 1927 ~ January 30, 2009)

Mary, daughter of Otto Scoggins and Lola Mae Nicholas, married 1st to Charles Elmer Lucas, married 2nd to Albert Lons Raney,  and married 3rd to Cecil Fay Jones.


Mary Eula Mae Jones of Abilene, died Friday, January 30, 2009 at a local hospital at the age of eighty-one.

Mary Eula Mae Scoggins was born on May 8, 1927 to Lola Mae and Otto Scoggins in Frankell, Texas.  She attended school in Pioneer and Bradshaw.  She was wed to Albert Raney on August 23, 1949.  They were married twenty-three years before his death in 1972.  On June 30, 1979, Mary married Cecil Fay Jones and they were married until his death in 1989.

Mary's love was being a homemaker.  Che enjoyed cooking for family, friends, and her church.  She attended Portland Free Methodist Church for many years and recently joined the Grace Sunday School Class at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.  Mary loved the Lord and was known as the bible scholar in the family.  Her faith and conviction held strong until her last breath.

Over the years she worked as an accountant and bookkeeper for companies in Las Cruces, New Mexico and in Abilene.  After retiring, Mary volunteered and worked at Bassetti Elementary, where she was known as "Miss Mary."

Mary was also proceded in death by her sister and soul mate, Gladys (Sis) Scoggins Donica, brother-in-law, L.K. Donica, grandson Matthew Shane Norris and her niece, Brenda Donica Quast.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara George and son-in-law David George, daughter, Mary Alice and son-in-law, John Norris, daughter, Kelly Armstrong and son-in-law, Mike Armstrong, and son, John Raney and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Raney.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great nieces.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 11:00 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.  Visitation will be held at Elliott-Hamil on Monday, February 2, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Honorary Pallbearers will be her beloved grandsons David George, Eric George, Jason Norris, Lance Norris and Josh Martindale, and dear friends, Joe Snow, Billy Stone and Tommy Thompson.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be sent to Hendrick Hospice, P.O. Box 1922, Abilene, Texas 79604.
