J.T. 'Jake' McMillon, son of Wiley Amon McMillon and Winnie Elizabeth Utley, married to Euna Estella Sheppard and buried in Dewey Cemetery, Lawn, Taylor County, Texas.

J. T. "Jake" McMillon, 94, died Friday, November 13, 2009, in Abilene. Services will be 2:00 p.m. today, Sunday, November 15, 2009, in Lawn Baptist Church, with the Reverend Price Mathieson officiating. Burial will be in Dewey Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home in Tuscola.

Jake was born August 16, 1915, in Moro to Wiley A. and Winnie Utley McMillon. He was a graduate of Bradshaw High School and married Euna Sheppard November 23, 1938, in Wingate. He farmed in Moro for two years and moved to Lawn in 1940 and to Abilene in 2001. He served as county commissioner for 36 years, retiring in 1985. He continued farming until 1995. During his tenure as commissioner, the Courthouse, the Coliseum and the Juvenile Detention Center were constructed. He was a deacon at Lawn Baptist Church for a number of years and a member of South Taylor County Lions, serving as president three times. He was an accomplished bass singer and sang in gospel quartets as well as solos for many years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one grandchild, Joel McMillon; four sisters; and two brothers.Survivors include his wife, Euna McMillon of Abilene; two sons, Donald McMillon and wife Jean, and Ronald McMillon and wife Bobbye, all of Abilene;five grandchildren, L. Mark McMillon and wife Wendy of Plano, Matthew McMillon and wife Rebecca of Abilene, Marci Phillips and husband John of Texarkana, Jeff McMillon and wife Kimberely of Abilene, and Holly Moore and husband Clark of Frost; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
