Herschel Lloyd Riddle

October 1, 1924 - February 11, 2021

Herschel was born on October 1, 1924 in Ovalo, Texas to H.L. Riddle and Bessie Burford Riddle. He grew up in Ovalo and attended North Texas Agricultural College before serving in the U.S. Army as a bomber navigator in WWII. Upon return from the war he completed his geology bachelors degree at Texas Tech and masters degree at Sul Ross University.

Following a brief spell teaching high school history and coaching basketball, Herschel joined Phillips 66 Geological Division working in Lafayette, La. and Houston, Texas, and rising to the position of Vice President of Exploration before retiring. He was an avid golfer and a long time member of Braeburn Country Club in Houston.

Herschel is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ann Crawley Riddle; sons Terry L. Riddle and Gerald D. Riddle; and sister Kathryn Riddle Beard. He is survived by his sister Margaret Riddle Shilling; four grandchildren, Dianne Riddle Mikeska, Frances Riddle, Blake Riddle and Katy Riddle; and two great grandchildren, Vivian and Nico.
