Mary Agnes Nelson
Austin

Mary Agnes Nelson, 95, of Austin, Texas died peacefully at home on Friday, September 4, 2009, surrounded by her family.

She was born August 14, 1914 to William Moses Little and Lela Youngblood Little in Teague, Texas. She spent her early years on a farm in Lawn, Texas with her two sisters and brother, Lola Little Papasan, Willie Mae Little Smith and Oscar Little, and moved to Austin as a young bride in the late 1930s. Growing up in a musical family, Mary Agnes and her sisters played the piano at church and school functions, and she sang in church choirs throughout most of her life. Her father sang in the original Stamps Quartet, and as a young child she sometimes joined them, standing on a chair to reach the microphone. In her young adult years, she sang in her own gospel quartet in the Ft. Worth and Abilene areas.

In Austin, she was personnel manager at Sears and Roebuck and worked in several managerial positions at Capitol Cable and Time Warner.

Mary Agnes is survived by her daughters Priscilla Marshall Bowland and Paula Johnson Curl, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a large extended family in the Abilene area including many beloved nieces and nephews.

Her family wishes to thank Hospice Austin, especially Pam, Cheryl, and Janet, for their unfailing support and gentle care.

Memorial gifts in Mary Agnes's name may be made to Lawn Baptist Church, 518 Avenue D, Lawn, Texas, 79530.
