Alton Dale (A.D.) Copeland, 94 passed away December 29th at Hendrick Hospice inpatient unit. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2011 at Lawn Baptist Church with the Reverend Price Mathieson and Lynn Turnbow officiating. Burial will be in Dewey Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home in Tuscola. Visitation will be 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
A.D. was born November 14, 1916 in Ovalo, TX to Henry & Maggie Copeland. He married Opal Zimmerlee in 1936 in Lawn, TX. They had one son Richard Copeland & 1 daughter Janice Kite. A.D. & Opal moved to Sweetwater in 1943. A.D. worked as a mechanic @ the Dodge Dealership from 1943 to 1971. A.D. won numerous awards while at the Dodge Dealership. After his employment there, he was owner of the Texaco Service Station on Lamar from 1971 to 1979. He then opened a garage on Broadway Street for 3 yrs. After his retirement, he continued to work on cars until age 80. He & Opal owned a lake lot in Brownwood for several years where all the family came, made memories, and enjoyed riding go-carts, fishing, swimming and camping. A.D. & Opal moved to Abilene in 2001.
Preceding A.D. in death was his wife Opal, who passed away earlier this year in March; his parents, 4 brothers and 4 sisters, his daughter Janice Kite, and one great-grandson, Trevor Bond Copeland.
Survivors include one son, Richard Copeland and wife Janice; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends.
