George, son of John Samuel Sanders and Mattie Eugenia Wedgeworth, married to Ivy Zoe Wood and buried in Masonic Cemetery, Caldwell, Burleson County, Texas.


George Wilford Sanders Sr., 82, of Caldwell, passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Westview Manor in Migrator. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Masonic Cemetery with the Rev. Phil Lovelace officiating. Visitation will begin 12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.

George was born in Bradshaw, Texas, to the late John and Mattie Sanders. He married Ivy Zoe Wood on Dec. 3, 1944, in Bradshaw. Mr. Sanders was employed by Commonwealth Insurance Company and was a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Caldwell and was a member of the J.D. Watson Sunday School Class. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ivy Zoe Sanders; two brothers; and four sisters.

He is survived by a son, the Rev. George Wilford Sanders Jr. and wife, Norma Sanders, of Altoona, Pa.; daughters, Zoe Ann Bartley, of Hewitt, Patricia Dianne Gentry and husband, Michael, of Arlington, and Joy Denise Sanders, of Hewitt; grandchildren, Michelle Gentry Carter and husband, Ernie, of Arlington, Michael Gentry, of Arlington, and Wayne Bartley and wife, Amy, of Prosper, Texas; five great-grandchildren; two sisters; a brother; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
