Doris Maxine Herrington Brooks, 83, of San Antonio, formerly of Hillsboro, died Tuesday, September 19, 2006 in San Antonio.

Doris was born March 8, 1923 in north Taylor County near the community of Bluff Creek, Texas.

On May 24, 1944 she married Charles A. Brooks. They lived in Hillsboro where she was active in her church, First Baptist Church.

She worked for many years for Farmers Home Administration. After retirement, she enjoyed her activities in the Business and Professional Womens' Club, the Senior Ladies' Quilting Circle, and volunteering as a "pink lady" at Hill Regional Hospital.

For the last two years she lived in San Antonio at Morningside Manor Assisted Living Facility, where she enjoyed volunteering, playing bingo, and going on shopping and sight seeing trips.

Though her passing was sudden, we will always remember her as a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors includer her daughter, Deborah Harper and son-in-law, Malcolm, of Buda; two grandchildren, Jill and Carl Harper of Buda; two sisters, Naomi Horton of Eastland and Betty Leonard of Gustine, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
