Owen Hugh 'O.H.' Gibbs

(January 19, 1915 ~ July 25, 1989)

O.H., son of Barney Oliver Gibbs and Dovie Pearl Kemp, married to Alice Victoria Jefferies and buried in Prairie Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, Hobbs, Lea County, New Mexico.

Hobbs, N.M. - Services for O.H. Gibbs, 74, of Hobbs are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with Jack Stringer officiating.

Masonic graveside services will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery.

Mr. Gibbs died Thuesday at his residence.  He was born Jan. 19, 1915, in Brown County, Texas.  He married Alice Jefferies.

Mr. Gibbs came to Hobbs in 1937.  He was owner and operator of a life insurance agency for 26 years.  He also was owner and operator of Pauline Style Shop, sold real estate, served as city commissioner from 1962 to 1966 and was mayor for one year.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, York Rite and Scottish Rite, was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Kiwains Club.

Mr. Gibbs was a former president of the Chamber of Commerce, helped start the Little League program in Hobbs, was one of the founders of the Quarterback Club and was former president of the Lea County Life Insurance Underwriters Association.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Hugh 'Butch' Gibbs of Odessa; two sisters, Darnell Sims of Hobbs and Pauline Boulware of Lake Charles, La.; and three grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to a crippled childrens hospital in care of a Shrine Temple.

Griffin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
