"Toney" was born June 10, 1921, to her parents Ira Luther Toney and Florence Melvina Boozer at their home near Winters in Taylor County, Texas. She was a graduate of Bradshaw High School, attended McMurray College in Abilene and became a vocational nurse in 1941. She married Alton Elijah Turnbow, the father of her four daughters, in 1943 in Abilene. A farmer in Lubbock County, Alton went to be with the Lord November 26, 1949. For twelve years the single mother raised her three surviving daughters with the help of the entire Turnbow clan. In 1961 she married Robert Rich and subsequent to his death married Donald Thompson, now deceased, both of Lubbock.

Toney was a servant of the Lord at Wolfforth Methodist Church for 60 years. She served as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Treasurer, and Board of Directors Member. She also served as PTA President at Frenship School and was very active in Lubbock County TEEA. Later in life she was fortunate to travel extensively in the US, Israel, Canada and Europe, often with the Bank Ladies of ABC Bank Wolfforth and sometimes with her children's families and her grandchildren. She provided a wonderful retreat and vacation home for her family at Ruidoso, New Mexico, where many lifetime memories were enjoyed. She was a talented artist and studied with the Windberg and Wyatt Studios in Ruidoso, N.M. She painted a landscape for each of her children's family. Her favorite pastime was fishing the pond and searching for Indian artifacts at the Toney family ranch.
