Wanda Charlene Cary Gray

(June 10, 1944 ~ March 15, 2021)

Charlene, daughter of Charles Foster Cary and Beulah D. King, married to Robert Lee Gray and buried in Tuscola Cemetery, Tuscola, Taylor County, Texas.


Tuscola - Wanda Charlene Gray, 76, passed away Monday, March 15, 2021, at her house in Tuscola. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, in the Tuscola Cemetery at 11:00am. Directed by Fry~Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola.

Charlene was born in Winters on June 10, 1944, to Charles Foster and Beulah (King) Cary. She attended school in Lawn and was a proud Lawn Longhorn. She left school her Freshman year but returned and achieved her GED then her associates degree from Cisco College.

Charlene married the love of her life, Robert Gray, on December 18, 1960. They moved several times throughout Texas until finally settling in Tuscola, where they raised their son, Brett.

Charlene found her passion early on in life, she had in incredible gift of caring for other people, which lead her to a career in home health care. Charlene retired four years ago to help care for her husband, Robert.

Her passion for caring for others was only eclipsed by her love for her husband. She and Robert enjoyed playing bingo and their every other month trip to Lawton, Oklahoma. Charlene's other enjoyment was local, local sports, and when the teams included one of her family members, she was there cheering them along. It did not matter if it were Brett, grandchild, niece, or nephew, Charlene was in the stands helping the best she could.

She is survived by her son, Brett Gray and his partner Alexia Holloway of Tuscola; brother Tommy Cary of Tuscola; brother-in-law, Weldon "Shorty" Gray of Munday; two grandchildren, Ethan and Hannah Gray of Calabasas, Ca; two nieces, Summer Heath of Tuscola, and Gala Dean of Katy; and two nephews, Tony Cary of Tuscola and Dough Handley of Marble Falls, granddaughter, Devlynn Barker of Tuscola.

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Gray in 2018, her parents, and her sister Nancy Handley.

Miss Cary Weds Robert Lee Gray

TUSCOLA (RNS) - Wanda Charlene Cary and Robert Lee Gray of Pecos exchanged marriage vows Sunday, Dec. 18 at seven o'clock in the evening.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Cary and Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Gray.

The Rev. L.M. Handley, Primitive Baptist Church minister at Lawn and San Angelo, read the single ring rites at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Farris Handley.

Mrs. Handley, sister of the bride, was matron of honor.  Bridesmaids were Glena Rae and Shirley B. Penticost of Goldsboro.

Brother of the bride, Tommy Cary, was best man.

Jo Ann Wilder and Nancy Ann young lighted wedding tapers.

Music was by Pat Thurman.

Mr. Cary gave his daughter in marriage.  She wore a floor length dress of lace over tafieta with full skirt of nylon tulle.  Long lace sleeves came to points over the hands. Pearls edged the scalloped neckline.

A pearl-trimmed crown held her veil of illusion and she carried a lace covered white Bible.

Bridal attendants' blue dresses had net overskirts.  Matching net hats had velvet trim.

Bobbye Powell, Pam Aldridge and Carolyn Rose assisted at the reception which followed the wedding.

After a wedding trip to Houston, the couple will rside at Pecos where the bridegroom is employed at the Paymaster Bin.

The bride attended Jim Ned High School.

The bridegroom is a senior at Balmorhea High School.
