Gene, son of Willis Peek Fox and Azee Learetta Davis, married to Mary Ada Johnston and buried in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery, Abilene, Taylor County, Texas.

Errol Gene Fox, 80, of Sweetwater, TX, passed away Monday, February 28th, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Fox; his brother Dean Fox; and his parents, Willis & Azee Fox.

He is survived by sons, Kevin & Barry Fox; daughters-in-law, Corie & Jennifer; granddaughters, Collier, Audrey and Addyson; sister, Sandra Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

In 1941, Gene was born in Littlefield and grew up in various West Texas communities including Big Spring, Lubbock, and Tuscola. As a 1964 graduate of Abilene Christian College, he went to work for Sun Oil Company in Tulsa, OK and Roswell, NM. In his younger days he enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, and riding his blood-red sorel horse "Chuck".

In 1971, he married Mary Ada Johnston in Wilcox, AZ. Upon Mary's diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 1983, Gene purchased Sweetwater Floral & Greenhouse from the Comolli family to allow him the ability to raise his family while also attending to Mary's needs. Gene and Mary were seldom apart until her death in 2003.

In most recent years, Gene spent his time happily working in the Sweetwater community, making trips to Cloudcroft, NM (a place he and Mary loved throughout their marriage), and spending time with his granddaughters in DFW and Denver areas.

Gene owned & operated Sweetwater Floral & Greenhouse for four decades. He took pride in serving people all over Nolan County and the greater West Texas area as they commemorated births, deaths, marriages, and many other meaningful events.

The Fox family extends a heartfelt thank you to the customers, past & current employees, and friends of Gene & Mary Fox.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Fourth & Elm Church of Christ with Chris McCurley officiating. Private graveside services will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
