John Wayne 'Johnny' Quinney, son of John Oscar 'J.O.' Quinney and Lena Mae Martin, married to Brenda Lynn Itz.


John (Johnny) Wayne Quinney, 66, of New Braunfels, Texas passed away in the early hours of the morning on Saturday April 29th, 2023, in his home surrounded by loved ones.

Johnny was born in Wilson County, Texas to John Oscar (J.O.) Quinney and Lena Mae Martin on December 20th, 1956. He graduated from Jim Ned High school in 1975. To this day, he still holds football records at Jim Ned where he played for Larry Aldridge, a true inspiration of his. Johnny went on to play DB/LB at Texas Tech University where he met his wife, Brenda. Shortly after college, Johnny and Brenda moved to San Antonio where they raised their three children. Family and football were everything to Johnny. He spent many years as a youth coach of his two sons and continued to be involved and supportive of their football dreams.

Johnny went on to earn a degree in Nursing from San Antonio College in 1994 and worked as a nurse for 24 years before retiring to spend time with his family. He worked his last few years before retirement in the same unit as his daughter as a burn nurse and in the same hospital as his wife. The last 13 years of his life, Johnny truly was overjoyed in his role as Paw Paw to each and every one of his grandchildren who meant the world to him.

Johnny is survived by his wife Brenda Quinney (nee Itz), Sons Dustin and Austin (Andi) Quinney, Daughter Kristin (Matthew) Anselmo, Brothers Fred and Ron Quinney, Sister Sheila Quinney, Mother Lena Quinney, and his grandchildren Emma Brown, Aiden Contreras, Jack Schlein, Shelby Schlein, Khloe Anselmo, Wyatt Quinney, Oren Quinney, Kinsley Quinney, and Amaya Quinney. He is proceeded in death by his father J.O. Quinney.

Funeral services will begin at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels Cherry Ridge, 3401 Cherry Ridge Dr, San Antonio, Texas 78230.  After the service family and close friends will be meeting at Herbert’s 1440 N Walnut Ave, New Braunfels, TX 78130 for a reception.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations are being accepted to assist with Funeral expenses. Food donations can be made through Meal Train or consider making a donation to the Make a Wish Foundation on Johnny’s behalf.
