JESSE LEE POPE, 79, one of the "few good me" passed away, Monday, September 13, 2010. Born in Temple, Texas, he graduated from South Taylor County Hight School, Tuscola, Texas; moved to Freeport, Texas where he worked for Dow Chemical until he was "chosen" to sign up for the Marines.

Resident of Houston for 50 plus years; active in the food brokerage business and operated his own company before retiring in 2008. He belonged to the Oriental Band of Arabia Shrine Center, J.W. Chandler Lodge #1452, Scottish Rite and several other Masonic groups. Charter member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Lee Pope; brother, Roy; sisters, Cloyce Scott and Mildred Mitchell. He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Pope; daughters, Karia Jones and Lisa Pope; son, Marlin Kerkman, all of Houston; grandsons, Adam Lee Pope and wife, Leisa, James H. Pope and wife, Tanya, Aaron David Jones, Sammy Kerkman Bruton, and great-grandchildren, Matthew Lee, Jaden and Ava Sophia,, and nephew, Don Scott.

The family will receive visitors from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at League City United Methodist Church, 1411 W. Main St., League City, TX 77573. Graveside Services and Military Honors: 12:30 P.M. Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston 77038.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Shriners Hospital for Children, 6977 Main St. Houston, TX 77030. Arrangements entrusted to Paul Corl, Funeral Director.
