Nell, daughter of Joseph Jackson Parker and Exa Lee O'Dea, married to Carroll Johnnie Childress and buried in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery, Abilene, Taylor County, Texas.

TUSCOLA - Virginia Nell Childress, 63, of Lawn died at 8:30 p.m. Friday at West Texas Medical Center in Abilene after a long illness.  Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Pentecostal Church of Lawn.

The Rev. Wayne Burkey of Tuscola United Methodist Church will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Jack Stevens of the United Pentecostal Church.  Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Fry Funeral Home.

Born Nell Parker Feb. 6, 1918, in Winfield, she graduated from Lawn High School.  She married Carroll J. Childress June 29, 1935, in Abilene.

They lived in Houston while her husband was in the military and lived in Longbeach, Calif., for more than 30 years.  They moved to Lawn in 1968.  Her husband died in 1972.  She was a membrer of the United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Asa McMillon of Lawn; a brother Alton B. Parker of Sebastabal, Calif.; and three nieces.

Pallbearers will be Carl Mathews, Jake McMillon, Bill Hamon, Harold Taylor, Leo Norris and J.E. Funk.
