Sidney Eugene 'Salty' Copeland

Sidney "Salty" Eugene Copeland, 90, of Granbury passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020. Graveside service: 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 12, 2020, Acton Cemetery. Please wear masks and social distance at the graveside per family's request.


Salty was born on January 23, 1930 in Lawn, Texas to Leon and Artie Copeland. He married Annie Lee Shannon on December 2, 1949.

He worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 20 years in Granbury and Sweetwater. He then worked for Flintkote Gypsum in Sweetwater as Traffic Manager for 20 years before retiring.


Salty played semipro baseball and was drafted by the Chicago White Sox. He loved fishing, bowling in his league in Granbury and watching his grandkids play sports. He was a member of Acton Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leon and Artie Copeland, his brother Morris Copeland, his sister Juanita Copeland Cheek, and his son Larry Gene Copeland.


Salty is survived by his loving wife of 71 years: Annie Shannon Copeland, daughter: Barbara Ann Copeland Bedford, son: Randy Copeland and wife Darlene, grandchildren: Michelle Bedford McCollum and husband Kevin, Christopher Bedford and wife Susan, Aimee Copeland Bleeker and husband Brandon, Nathan Copeland and wife Cameron, 20 great-grandkids, and three great-great-grandkids.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
