Gary Heuermann introduced me to Gary Oakley while we were at Hardin-Simmons Univ., and I married Gary Oakley on Dec. 4, 1971. We moved to Austin where Gary was a Driver Education, P.E., Health teacher, and Coach in various Austin high schools and middle schools. I started work at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (a state agency) on June 12, 1972, and have worked in the State Archives for 39 years. I left work in April, 2011, to take care of my husband, and in Aug., 2011, I actually retired. I have lived long enough to finally start receiving my Social Security benefits. Gary passed away on January 5, 2012. It has been very hard, but I am finally getting back into my quilting, and of course playing with grandkids.
I played basketball, volleyball, ran track, was a cheerleader my junior year, and head cheerleader my senior year. I have my first grade yearbook - where Danny Rose, Charlene Lafoon, Betty Kay Landers, and I started school together. It's so cute to look at. I had a good time in high school, but I've had much better times since I've been married to Gary Oakley. There will never be another man like him.

Betty Kay, I am so sorry to hear about Tommy's death. I lost my brother Johnny on Feb. 19, and I understand what you are feeling. Take care. I pray for you and your family.
Happy Birthday young lady! Hope you have a great day!
Happy Birthday Frank!
Thank you Sherry. I've had a great day. Got a phone call from my grandkids singing happy birthday to me, and I've been sewing all day on a new quilt top. So, it's been good. A little sad, but good.
Hope you have a great day!!! Take care of yourself and come back to see us!!

Frank, I'm sorry I missed your birthday in November, so now I am saying "Happy Belated Birthday!" And I am wishing you the best possible health. I did not know you had a heart attack. Take care of yourself the best you can.
